Survivorship

Resources for navigating follow-up care, long-term and late effects, emotional well-being, education, employment, faith, and life during and after cancer treatment.

Healing does not always follow a straight line.

Survivorship can bring gratitude and relief, but it may also include uncertainty, fatigue, fear of recurrence, financial pressure, changes in relationships, and questions about returning to school or work.

Whether you identify as a survivor, thriver, patient, or use another word entirely, your experience is your own. You deserve support that recognizes your physical, emotional, practical, and spiritual needs.

Preparing for the next stage of care

Survivorship needs are different for every person. These steps can help you begin conversations with your healthcare team and identify where additional support may be useful.

1

Request your treatment summary

Ask whether your oncology team can provide a summary of your diagnosis, treatments, medications, and important dates.

2

Discuss a follow-up care plan

Clarify recommended appointments, screenings, symptoms to report, and which provider is responsible for each area of care.

3

Track continuing concerns

Keep notes about physical symptoms, energy, sleep, emotional health, medications, school, employment, and daily functioning.

4

Ask for specialized support

Your care team may be able to refer you to rehabilitation, mental health, social work, fertility, financial, or spiritual-care services.

Faith can remain part of your healing.

Questions about gratitude, hardship, identity, worship, purpose, and rebuilding life may continue long after active treatment. Muslim Cancer Support is working to make faith-sensitive information and community support easier to find.
