Our Mission
At Muslim Cancer Support, our mission is to establish a vibrant and compassionate community dedicated to breaking down the barriers to care for Muslims impacted by cancer. We understand that facing a cancer diagnosis can be an overwhelming journey, and our goal is to provide a warm and supportive environment where individuals and families can find the resources and assistance they need.

Our Team
Ihsan Yuksel
Founder, President
Hometown: Fuquay-Varina, NC
Ihsan earned his bachelor’s in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is completing his master’s in physiology at North Carolina State University. Having battled acute lymphoblastic leukemia thrice, Ihsan recognized how valuable the support of his friends and family was. He founded Muslim Cancer Support to ensure individuals and families afflicted by cancer have a faith-based community to support their specific needs.
In his free time, Ihsan enjoys kayaking, working on his car, and playing basketball with friends.
Aisha Siddiqui
Vice President
Hometown: North Providence, RI
Aisha earned her bachelor’s in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s in biomedical sciences from Duke University. She is currently a research assistant at the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University. Her research particularly focuses on DNA repair pathways involved in cancer. Aisha is particularly passionate about cancer prevention measures and sharing related resources.
In her free time, Aisha enjoys exploring local coffee shops, going to art museums, and catching up with friends.
Abdel Rahem Yusuf
Program Director
Hometown: Greenville, NC and Youngstown, OH
Abdel Rahem earned his bachelor’s in Biology at Youngstown State University and earned his medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He is completing a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency. After surviving an Ewing sarcoma diagnosis in his childhood, he was inspired to treat and create a community that supports those who were in a similar position as him.
In his free time, Abdel Rahem tries new coffee shops, lift weights, spends cherishing moments with friends and family, and indulges in his passion for sneakers, making him a dedicated sneaker enthusiast.
Rami Darawsheh
Outreach Director
Hometown: Greenville, NC
Rami Darawsheh majored in Health Policy and Management at the Gillings School of Global Public Health. He is a current first-year medical student.He has a profound interest in advancing cancer research and healthcare equity resulting from interacting with underserved cancer patients. Rami also has a significant research background dedicated to developing new treatment strategies, diagnostics, and evaluating patient outcomes for cancer. Through this initiative, he is interested in addressing healthcare disparities through improving cultural barriers to care for Muslim cancer patients. Rami is interested in pursuing a career in radiation oncology.
In his free time, Rami enjoys spending time with friends, trying new outdoor activities, and staying active!
Laith Rayyan
Development Director and Treasurer
Hometown: Wilmington, NC
Laith Rayyan graduated from UNC, majoring in Nutrition with a focus on Science and Research at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and is actively involved in cancer research. His work, in collaboration with the Nutrition Research Institute, examines the connections between obesity and breast cancer. Laith is committed to educating his peers about nutrition and encouraging healthier lifestyles. Additionally, he serves as an Emergency Department Technician at Duke Regional Hospital, where he also contributes as an Arabic translator. With a personal connection to the cause, Laith is driven to make cancer treatment more accessible and comfortable for minority communities.
In his free time, Laith enjoys the hands-on activities of building projects, fishing for relaxation and connection with nature, and working on cars.
Arslan Ahmed
Publicity Director
Hometown: Charlotte, NC
Arslan Ahmed earned his bachelor’s in Computer Science from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2019. Although not in his direct field or work, Arslan is committed to this organization in means of support, whether it be psychological or spiritual. Throughout his life, Arslan has witness many family members and friends go through cancer and various other illnesses and can recognize the importance and value of a strong support system for the patient and care takers.
